Jim Zupancic has been teaching and performing in the greater Phoenix area since 1974 and has enjoyed a devoted career to teaching and drumming. He founded and owned the first drum shop in Arizona, “The Creative Drum Shop,” from 1978-1986, where over 200 weekly students took lessons from various expert instructors. The shop hosted 67 major clinics with top artists from around the world in its 8 years.

Since then, Jim’s students have thrived under his personalized and music-centered approach. He has taught in a wide variety of settings including: drum set, mallet, marching, and hand percussion. Many of his students have gone forward to earn scholarships from top universities, as well as becoming life long lovers of music. Jim’s teaching philosophy is focused on meeting each student where they are at, as well as designing an approach which is based on the student’s interests and prior knowledge.
